I took a pretty hard spill a few years back with my Whelen, and the stock up pretty good. So I decided it was time to redo the stock. I've sanded down the stock and had a new recoil pad installed and the grip thinned and opened up. Just not sure where to go from here, I don't really care for the way the cheek piece looks and the forearm is clubby feeling now that I thinned up the pistol grip. I would open the grip, replace the grip cap with steel and set it further back, remove/straighten the comb, reshape the cheekpiece pancake-style, slim the forend, add 90 degree ebony tip. More European classic style in other words. JMO. NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS. Shoot & hunt with vintage classics.

I had thought about removing the comb, but then I worry that I won't line up to the scope. I had the grip opened up as far as my GS was willing to take it when he installed the pad. Of course that is all I asked him to do, and maybe he didn't take it further because I hadn't suggested modifying the stock further.
