Our left hand Zastava Mausers are finally in country so my 7X57 will be shipped Friday (please please please!!!). I've had a very nice piece of perfectly quarter sawn walnut sitting in my back room for well over 10 years now waiting for a suitable project and this could be it. What I'm thinking of is a more or less classic Mauser Sporter such as might have been built between the wars, that or possibly an English style rifle from the same period. "More or less" since I'd want a comb height suitable for scope mounting but otherwise try to keep the lines and overall look fairly accurate. Could anybody point me to some on-line resources with good pictures of such rifles? I know overall what they look like but want something I could take to a stockmaker and say, "do it like that". Don't need to spend $50 for a coffee table book on classic rifles but just looking for ideas and inspirations. The African forum here has some decent pictures of Ossa Johnson's 9.3 Mauser, that's the kind of thing I'm looking for. TIA for any help. Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery! Hit the target, all else is twaddle.

Hopefully, these links will work...a few current gun makers that, in my opinion, have that style with the functionality of scoping the rifle: http://www.martiniandhagngunma....com/boltactions.htm http://customgunandrifle.com/ http://www.customsportingarms.com/ http://www.sdplains.com/~chico/ Here is a better link to mine: http://www.granitemountainarms.com/martini.html

Theres a handlful of extremely capable & talented smiths out there, but considering you request, Ralf Martini is first and foremost in my mind. Ralf can accommodate your desire for a comb height better suited to scope use.

These are just what I was looking for, thanks! That shorter, rapidly narrowing forend, barrel band swivel, style of checkering, etc. Getting some really good ideas! Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery! Hit the target, all else is twaddle.
