I have a semi custom Luxus Ruger 1-A on the way and I am looking for a nice leather sling to use on this gun. Maybe something in an exotic african leather. It just feels wrong to put a $35 sling on a nice rifle. Can any of you offer direction for a likely source.

I am searching for a nice carry sling. I have to get used to that wide canvas look. How is it in the rain?

I used markman's 1.25" slings since the 50's. Then I removed the metal hooks on a couple and replaced them with rawhide.

Now a few 'Euro' 7/8" leather carry straps came with the rifles here that are held with a stud.

I like the Trader Keith style, it doesnt have that big buckle on it.

Canvas/web is better by far than leather in the rain, in fact that's one reason it's so popular.

A second choice, not quite as good in the rain but nicely non-slip, is flat-braided leather. I especially like them for Euro-style guns and rifles, they're as much a tradition in Europe as is the canvas/web type in the UK.

I like Brownell's Latigo sling, have two. Another great one is the Montana Sling. Both are quick adjustable, made well.

a few months back jeff's had the leather & canvas slings on sale for $25, i should have bought 4 or 5 instead of just one

+2 on Jeff's. I bought 3, then went back and bought 5!

I, too, would go with the Brownells's Latigo or Trader Keith's sling on a fine rifle. In fact, I have done so several times!

Vero Vellini make the best carry slings that I know of. The neoprene absorbs shock as you walk with sling on your shoulder, making the rifle seem lighter than it is. They make a couple different models.

Can anyone recommend a good US made sling? I spoke with Jeff about the sling TC1 posted and he stated they are made in Mexico. Anyone know of something similar US made?

I also use the Vero Vellini slings for my heavier rifles.

I agree that the elastic strap does make a big rifle much more comfortable to carry on long walks.

The Vero Vellini doesn't look as good as a classic leather sling, like the Brownell's Latigo, or a leather and web sling, like Trader Keith's.

So, I wouldn't put a VV sling on a "classic" rifle (if that makes any sense ).

But IMO the VV sling is a good and very practical design.

Maybe you need two slings: one for pretty, the other for function. I have carried heavy rifles from Alaska to Africa with the VV and sure appreciate the shock absorption and non-slip features.
