Sauer 202 Takedown This is probably better than pictures I can take of my 202 Takedowns. The first bit of the trailer is probably worht a watch, even though the picture is horribly small! The barrel actually comes completely free of the forend when the button is depressed and the bolt is forcefully pulled rearward whereupon the rear action/buttstock is seperated from the forend/barrel. The huge difference between this and the regular 202 is that the regular model has a hex headed socket screw that is accessed through the butt plate/pad, and the screw loosens a 'key' which draws the front fore-end to the action/buttstock, or releases it. In both systems, the barrels is indexed into the action with a 'notch' or 'tab', and the bolt when brought into battery 'seats' the barrel into the action. It takes 5 minutes or so to do the regular style disassembly, not counting digging out your wrench and maybe a few more minutes to assemble. The takedown rifle comes apart in 5 seconds or so--max!, and with no tools at all. The scope and mounts stay on the rear action/buttstock portion of the rig, and I almost never take the scope off of this part, it doesn't need to for portability....I do have QR Talley mounts on one or two of mine though, and have taken off the scope once or twice, just to do it--no affects to accuracy, or POI. As far as shooting a group of 5, and then shooting another group of 5, disassebling the rifle between each of the shots on the second group, I have indeed done this several times, mostly just the second part of the 'test' frankly...but ahve done both parts, no true noticeable affect on accuracy, and these rifles are darn accurate. 270 Win, 300 Win Mag, 375 H&H, and 416 Rem mag--only shot that one about 30 times---sheeez I don't like that thing from a bench!!!! I would trade my 416 Rem Mag barrel for another 270 or 270 Weatherby in a second! Really attractive rifles for sure, but an absolute nightmare to get extras for here in the states--i.e. barrels, replacement buttstock etc.......

Nobody has mentioned the Mauser 66 system, an otherwise ungainly looking arrangement, but one with the capability of interchangeable barrels, with the scope mounted directly on the barrel. I presently have one in 7X66 vom Hofe with extra barrel in 8X68S. I haven't had it long enough to do a complete shakedown, but it seems promising. Having the bolt handle that far forward takes some getting used to. As far as pure take down, without the caliber changing feature, I think I prefer my M1903 Mannlicher Schoenauer and my 1916 Newtons. The Newton method of using the hinged floorplate as a wrench to loosen/tighten the front guard screw is unique and ingenious.
