I started the thread below earlier this year for this rifle. I never did post final pictures with the checkering completed, so I figured I'd post some from the field. I just got back from two weeks in South Africa where I hunted elephant adjacent to the Kruger and plainsgame in Northern Limpopo. I'm still working on the hunt report. I also took a bushbuck and red hartebeest with the rifle, but didn't have rifle only pics with the animals.

nothing wrong with a military issue Enfield that a bit of fancy wood and some TLC won't take care of...

The elephant was taken with 430 gr FPS Northfork solids loaded to 2,200 FPS. The shot was about 30 yards, frontal, dropped him flat. Then I put one insurance shot in the brain and heart, the PH one in the brain as well.

I used 380 gr SS NFs for the plainsgame loaded to 2,315 fps. I took the sable through a BUNCH of brush at 150 yards. Laid him down on the spot.

Bushbuck was at 150 yards through a bush (what else?) and the hartebeest at 150 yards in the open. The sound the 380 gr made on the lung shot on the hartebeest had to be heard to be believed. It was the only bullet recovered with 88% weight retention and a perfect 'shroom.

I tried for some baboons one evening, but 300+ yards with no range finder nor a ballistics table in fading light didn't work out to well, though the baboons got the message.

My PH said it's probably a good thing I didn't hit the baboons because no one would have believed us! Smiler
