Proof again that the finest gunmaking ever is being done today. I'm sure the crowds will be much larger in Dallas, hopefully most of the same artists will make the trip.

I've wondered about that. It seems possible that there is more talent out there than any time in the past. Maybe I'm just dreaming but almost every week I hear about or view photos of the work of some superb craftsman that I had never heard of.

Thanks for the pics...
Question, are there any young people joining the guild...I love seeing the old timers and respect each and everyone of them. How many craftsman does the guild have say under 50? Not trying to be disrespectful, hope the younger gen. picks this art form up and runs with it.

Steve,
It was nice too meet you and thanks for the pictures.

Trax,
I brought 20 current student from my school and had a couple of past graduates also come down I believe we will have some younger talent in the next few years making their attempts to be full members in the guild. Other schools had students there as well.

Thanks, good to know! Wish my gunsmithing class of 85 had got to go back then.

Steven,

Thanks for taking the time to post the photos for all of us to enjoy.

I wish the Guild cataloged their shows in this way.....putting up a photo album of each years members in attendance & the work they presented.

That would really be a great thing to have on the ACGG website!

Best Regards,
Dave

Thanks for the kind words about the Show Pix!

I wish I had photos of the 25 or so students from Denver School of Trades and Trinidad State who brought custom guns to show us and ask for our critique. Truly the most inspiring experience for the future of American Custom Gunmaking I've seen in decades!

And I've got a Trinidad Grad. coming for an interview next week and two fellows signed up for my Custom Gunmaking Seminar. Only one or two spots remain, I will be adding more info to the Home page...

Michael, Great to meet you, I enjoyed our several conversations, it was wonderful to see all the enthusiasm for the trade coming from the schools. I'd appreciate your spreading the word about my Seminar.

BTW: There are 100+ voting members of the ACGG, while the average age is not young, it does take a number of years to become established in this trade.

Really sad to see the show so poorly attended. What's up with that? Poor timing? Bad advertising?

Gentlemen:

There are a good number of things factoring into the attendance issues, some known and some that can only be speculated about.

The ACGG is addressing this issue by moving the show to Dallas starting next year. The 2013 Custom Gunmakers Exposition will be held in conjunction with the 2013 Dallas Safari Club show. The Exposition will be held inside the DSC show, and your ticket for the DSC show will include access to the ACGG show.

The Guild show will be a separate entity inside DSC, off to the side of the main show floor.

We feel this change of venue will give us the opportunity to put our work before a much larger audience, and allow us to reach people who would otherwise not know about the organization.

Do please come and see us there! It promises to be the best ACGG show ever.

Respectfully,

Glenn Fewless

That should help! Although there were some of the finest examples of gunmaking art on display there, it's kind of hard to carry a show all by yourself especially when the customer base is so narrow. Would love to attend next year. Good luck!

A question if I may. The two examples of engraving appear to be a basic Blackleaf pattern. Is this the common style ATM in North America ? Is fine scroll work used much ?

Thx,

John

I'm not sure which examples you are referring to but Barry Lee Hands has developed his own style of black-leaf (on the Jerry Fisher Hagn rifle) that is simply exquisite!
I don't get ATM?

I was refering to the Low wall engraved by Diana Scalese and the action of the .17 Rem on a Sako L461. I was trying to find out if that style is 'in' at the moment over there.

Sorry about the 'ATM'. I've been hanging out with my teenage kids too long.

That Low Wall features Diane's own completely original style, somewhat adapted from Western "bright cut" engraving found on cowboy- horse tack silver work; bits, spurs and the like. It was done for her husband Bob (who can be seen in a pic from the show with a round crown black Indian Joe hat).

She is a highly skilled engraver capable of many styles, a good friend, and soon to be engraving a Hagn actioned rifle for me in an English style scroll.

You really should try engraversforum.com or engraverscafe.com

Thx SDH will do. Was unaware of their existance. A custom firearm without engraving (even minimalist touches) looks naked to me.

Cheers.
