The barrelled action for my Springfield custom is ready, and waiting on stock duplicating. It is a 240 Weatherby and will be stocked in marbled English to match the Enfield I have in 240. The barrel is half octagon, half round. The rear express sights actually have an octagon base. I had a new bolt handle welded on, as the old one turned out to be cracked. The bolt and follower were jeweled. I put a set of Warne rings on to see how they looked, but plan on switching to Warne quick release, in a lowere height. I kept the Springfield bottom metal, but modified it to make it a little "lighter" looking, and relieved the rear of the floorplate in a cove contour that leads into the tapered trigger guard. I did this so I could thin the grip around the rear of the trigger guard and shape the grip to allow better access to the trigger. Sort of liked a stock on a dropped magazine, without the dropped magazine. We'll see how this works out

Love it! If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

Interesting project. If it's not stocked yet, why is it blued already?

Looks good! Isn't the 240 a magnum length cardtridge? (forgive me guys, not familiar with the weatherbys but thought they were all long) what did you have to do to accomodate it? Well, it's blued because I goofed up. I did the metal work (fitted sights, crowned barrel, safety, altered trigger guard, scope mounts etc. However, since I had never done a Springfield barrel, didn't have the proper bit, and it was an octagon which had to be timed, I sent it to a smith while I was having two other actions blued. They all went in one box, and my instructions in retrospect weren't too clear. I will try to inlet without damaging the blue. Likely won't happen. The 240 is a 30-06 length cartridge, as is the 257 (qnd I believe the 270 and 7mm). The rest are longer. The 240 is also a 30-06 bolt head size, so most actions will work with no adjustment.

The 240 Wby is like a 243 on steroids. Great deer and Antelope round.
