Its been a few years since i did a custom, but i have a chance to buy what might make a cool project.
Its a post WW2 Obendorf Mauser 308.
its been restocked but other than some williams sights it looks like the barreld action is original.
My understanding is that they were made for Israel at the beginning of that country.
The 1st thing I would want to do is make it scope ready. Drill and tap for 2 piece leupold bases, bend or replace the bolt handle and just the old basic bulhler type safety ?
Could i do it for say 300.00 maybe less ?
Thanks ? ...tj3006

No problem, but, I would add one of my two position safeties and still be close to your budget, Shipping might eat up a bit though.

And you'd probably get it back in a week or so, not a year.

I've had the same experience with Jim.

If its a really nice one with good Mauser markings A post WWII Obernsorf Action deserves a nice 3 position safety regardless of who installs it.

Can you post a pic of the markings; all the post war Mausers were made under French control of the factory. A few were made commercially by the former factory director. The other allies got mad and made them destroy the entire factory. The 308 was not developed until after that, so it wasn't built at Mauser, but Israel made barrels and re-built many Mausers of all types; I had one with both clear swastika and star of David side by side. Actually, FN made lots of them for Israel. So did CZ, in 8mm. I am interested to see it.
