Has anyone used a Stiller action for a build? I was wondering how good the fit and finish is and how smooth they are?

I have 12 of Jerry's actions some Predators some Pythons all perfect with the rifles built by Speedy. Have one in process right now Speedy is building for a silhouette rifle fit the pillars on Sunday in fact-----pretty much use them exclusively now for stainless rifles. They are first rate IMHO..

Thats good to hear. I've been looking at them for a bit and think the stiller will be the basis for a new custom. I was looking at the Predator. I'm not positive which caliber i want yet but i'm tossing a couple around. I'd be interested in a photo or two of the rifles you've built on them.

I have a custom 260 built on one of his tactical actions and found that it is a outstanding action and very well built.

Pictured below is a 300SAUM that I built.

The looks of the bolt handle leaves a lot to be desired, but it works fine.

Pretty nice rig, Thanks. There are quite a few good actions it's kinda hard to choose. Is that a true REM M700 drop in or was there much work to bed that action in that stock? The bolt didn't look that long on the Stiller site but i see it is long. Wonder why so long, I wonder if they would make a shorter bolt handle if i asked for one. Looks like about an inch would do it. This is the action i am looking at. http://www.viperactions.com/prod_pics/pred_length.jpg

All of the custom Competition actions make a sound base to build a rifle on. I'm a Hall fan myself, but that's because I know him, and he let me shoot his Heavy Varmint rifle the year I went to Kelblys for the big circus.

The one shown was one out of the first run several years ago. The picture angle makes it look longer than it is. The one in the link that you posted is the same, except it is swept back slightly. I don't believe anybody makes a better receiver for the price. I really like the Pierce receivers as they are made of chromoly.
Watch for the announcement of a new receiver on the market later this month. It will fit in any factory or factory replacement Remington stock. It will several new features also.

I've barreled several of them. The machine work is very well done with no tool marks anywhere. I had to lap the lugs on one of the actions. The lugs weren't making full contact on that one action as it came from the factory.

Rich,

Does Hall make an action than can be configured as a repeater and also does he make one long enough for a magnum.

I don't think Alan makes any centerfire receivers anymore, just rimfire.

I've always liked the Stiller actions and was planning on buying one for a long range rifle build.

Sunday morning we had a a bolt start to tear off a Stiller action at our monthly long range shoot.

This was an action chambered in 338 Lapua mag and admittedly the shooter was banging the bolt open with the heel of his hand. The braze did not fail, it looked like the bolt handle was tearing the metal right out of the bolt body in the heat affected area.

You might try BAT Machine. They are the best anyway!

Pegleg,

My buddy wants to try a BAT for a 308 tactical rifle. I think BAT is one of the best. I have Rems and a Hall. Will see his BAT when he gets it, may have to try one.

Thanks

Butch----the action Stiler is building for another Company is not a secret. Won't be for me with the bolt nose but the Savage people may like it.

What do you mean by (Banging the bolt open)? Was he clearly abuseing it or was somthing wrong? Was it somthing going on with the action? Did the guy contact Stiller?

Don't know what kind of Stiller actions you are looking at. If the "Predator" is of interest, I have 2 of them. One is a short action in .308 (see pictures below), and one is a long in .30-06. Nice actions.

Most of the time (99.9) it is the Idiot behind the trigger shooting a hot load. They deny it but that is what happens most of the time.

I just finished a .338 Edge on a Predator action. Great fit and finish. First 100 yd. group, after break-in, was .385". It was the first time I used one, but not the last.....Tom
