I wish it was yours too, but I note that the inletting around the rear tang is not first class work.

One of the five I currently have is a 21H-7x57 in much that condition of metal finish and I am having it restocked and a 3-pos. safety and Recknagel trigger installed. I am just waiting for Canada's postal strikes to be resolved and then off to one of Martini's contract 'smiths it shall go....not walnut, though, I have a Micky Edge Remington Hunter's Compact blank that they will fit it into.

I just got the invoice from Ralf, yesterday, for the pair of 22-Hs rechambered to .280Rem. that he installed Timneys and Lapour-Wisners on and I have a pair of original stocks with really nice wood that I will have re-fitted to these and have their magic touch done to.....I like these and ZGs better than any other rifles.

I have a line on a nice one in 8x57 and am hoping to add it to my collection, currently at 3 ZGs and 5 21/22s.....I am getting as bad as Fla3006! Smiler

I don't know if that is expedition grade wood or not, but it is a nice rifle.

I would take it on an expedition.

Heck, I might even put it on exhibition.

Hard to tell from just that one photo angle.

If the wood is still proud of the metal a bit, the lighting could make it look far worse than it really is.

If you carefully examine the rest of the stock -the inletting around the bottom metal and the overall shaping and sanding, it's nice work.

It would be interesting to see the inletting with the metal out of the stock.

I was looking at this photo, and from that angle it appears that there were some gaps in the inletting, but you are correct, it could just be the way the light is hitting it.

"Beautiful custom Brno". Your not wrong there tu2

Personally, I prefer a bit of a gap between wood and the tang. Particularly if it was arifle heavy in recoil.

I was going to write an exposition, but instead I'll just say that's a nice cut of wood, but the Brno factory throats tend to be a bit long.

At $3,500, its a bit steep unless done by a known and regarded custom gunmaker and so documented.

I do agree with that point.

At $2,500 it would be a decent buy considering the entire package.

Well, I don't think it could be duplicated for $3500, not even by Bubba. If so, Bubba wouldn't be Bubba for long.

That may be but it hasn't hindered the accuracy of my 8x57 or 7x57 any at all. The long throat and .30-06 length magazine allows me to seat 200 grainers long enough to minimize the distance to land and gain powder capacity to boot. Those 200 grainers are stpping might fast. So, I don't see the long throat as a hindrance.

I am not a known or regarded smith and I will gladly tell you that I could not build you that rifle for $3500. Maybe if you lucked into some good deals otherwise.

Lapour safety would be $250-$300 plus fitting. Blackburn metal... what $400? Grip cap, butt plate, sling swivel $150-$200? Stock blank $200-$300? Rust Bluing...? Stock Work $1000-$2500? Original barreled action $700-$1000? $3500 is not too far out of line...

Slancey,
Brno mod 21 and 22 throats are exceptionally long an unlike todays guns the throat matches the long 30-06 length magazine thereby you you can seat the .284 caliber bullets, for instance, way out giving you much more powder capacity and you can actually duplicate a handloaded .280 Rem. or a factory loaded 7 mag with the Brno 7x57s...

Also the Brnos will all shoot 120 to 175 gr. bullets very accurately in my experience and I have owned and shot literally dozens of them over the years..My all time favorite production rifle and the equal to most custom rifles.

All my custom rifles in 7x57 have the Brno specs as to magazine length (30-06) and the matching throat..

What a pity the sellers would not export the rifle, otherwise I would have bought it.

I guess by mentioning the long throat in the Brno I was simply making an observation. It was not meant as a criticism of the rifle, but it is a fact that may catch some neophytes off-guard if they bought the gun and tried to load shorter bullets close to the lands. Some loads actually benefit from bullets being seated closer to the lands.
However, my curiosity is piqued. Would someone please help me understand how one
