Is this a big deal for a custom?

dogcatIs this a big deal for a custom?
I am looking at a custom rifle. It has a "double square bridged Oberndorf Mauser action with all matching Serial Numbers".
Not being an expert, my question is - is this a big deal worthy of extra expense?
I see so many varieties of Mauser actions out there - Peruvian, Mexican, Czech, etc along with variations- that I really cannot assess if this is a big deal or not.
Your comments are appreciated.

BiebsRoss, is it a magnum caliber? A true (un-notched) Oberndorf Magnum Mauser action is quite a prize.

Yes, this is a very big deal. Oberndorf Mauser commercial actions are as good as they get and a double square bridge action is very, very desirable. I would expect it would be appropriately expensive. Note: This is a commercial product made in limited numbers not a military action made by the millions.

dogcatJon and Rogers,
Yes, all original, unnotched and pristine.
It is for a .300WM right now.
Any idea on value?
Thanks

dpcdYou need to post a picture because there are more modern made ones, and fake ones welded up out of standard 98s, than there were originals; so only seeing it will provide you the information you need.
Original Mauser Mag Actions are rare and very expensive. As RA said.
Additionally, to me, putting a 300 WM on a true original Magnum action is a waste and a sacrilege; those actions were made for true long/fat/traditional cartridges. One of which the 300 WM, ain't.
And Original and Untouched; since the 300 WM was not available when those actions were being made in the 30s, that is suspect right there.

BaxterBI had my hands on one of these actions last year - still had the price tag on it. Outta my league... a really nice piece of work,.

BiebsRoss, the only downside is that you'd have to wear a suit and tie when hunting with a rifle like that!

customboltSure is a nice one. Wonder who the builder was since none was mentioned on Ralf's website.

Doesn't look like the original owner hunted it all.
That seems to be a problem with beautiful customs.

dpcdI thought he had an Original Oberndorf Mauser Magnumm Rifle.
So, not a big deal; it's a new custom rifle.

Charlie64.
Hey Ross, As stated a clean Oberndorf Mauser double square bridge is a great find and carries a hefty price tag. What I dont get is the caliber at .300 WM when I would expect to see this in a DG caliber.
Oberndorf Mauser double square bridge on a .300 WM - Ok, but would not have been my first choice.
My 2 cents

dogcatThanks all. I decided to pass and stay with my tried and true Model 70 actions.
I appreciate the shared learnings here.

eagle27Run the serial number by those provided by Jon Speed in his "Original Oberndorf M98 Sporter Variations" treatise. That might provide a clue as to whether this custom Mauser started life as a true Original Oberndorf Sporter.

If this rifle was made by Ralf Martini I would have no questions as to the quality of materials and build.

dogcatRalf made it and did the mods himself. He is one of the very best at his trade.

squeezenhopeI was curious about the made in Germany lettering on the floor plate. Is this typical of commercial mausers? Like I said, just curious, not in any way critical.

bwanamrmRalf uses Heym barrels and bottom metal on occasion. I have a .300 WM he built and it has a Heym barrel. For the record, it is accurate and I have hunted North America and Africa with it. Very nice rifle...

customboltHe did? Wonder why it isn't marked accordingly. Maybe an early one? Customer didn't want it marked. Just curious as usual.

AtkinsonOn a gun I intend to use, I don't really mind a properly done double square bridge weld and prefer it to a round top, and on a big bore..
that said an original is preferred and at several thousand dollars more..Take your pick..and I don't mind a round top Mauser drilled and tapped as well..
ONe is collectable land the other two are not, but all are expensive custom rifles..I would not drag a "beautiful collectable" rifle thru Alaska or AFrica, thats just stupidity and uncalled for..
