I was in Murphy's Gunshop a couple of days ago and he has a Fine custom 416 Rigby for sale. It's on a Brevex 400 actionwith a presentation grade walnut stock.25" barrel with quarter rib express sight, banded front banded slingwivel. Stock is a VERY nice piece with ebony tip with widows peak and red Galazan pad with widows peak. Extra nice checkering in fluer-de-lis patter with ribbons. Only thing that might detract is the reciever is deep plum as some recievers do when blued. Virtually unfired except for load developement. Murphy built it for himself and has not been back to Africa. Price ,I think, is $6600. I would easily pay that but I shall never go to Africa again either. I watched it being built and have always wanted it. Murphy's is in Tucson,Az and the phone number is 520-881-7074. I can't reccomend it highly enough. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS

Thank you for not posting pics. I'm terrified that I'd end up having a fire sale to afford it as it sounds like a real beauty. Actually in this particular case it is such an even perfect finish I find it rather attactive. I think that is absolutely the only thing that could be faulted on it. As I say I would love to own it but sadly my hunting days are over and I too would have to divest myself of several firearms which I would gladly do if I could go once more to Africa. When someone talks about a very unusual finish, which usually looks bad, but in this case looks good, I think pictures are called for. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

I don't have the ability to add pictures at this time. My reference to the finish is the reciever color does not in the least appear unattractive to me as the metal surfaces on the entire rifle is quite uniform and perfect in appearance. It's only the color diffetential of the plum reciever and the uniform blue of the remainder of the rifle. Much like a french gray and blue combination or the old time Mauser polished reciever and blued barrel combination. I just think it's an extraodinarily nice big bore in my favorite caliber by a gunsmith of exceptional quality. I'm sure Murphy could probably supply photos to anyone interested. Again I apologize for creating contraversity where it was not intended. I merely saw a beautiful rifle on a rather rare (to me that is) action that had been impeccably built and wanted to notifify others of it's presence. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS

It is my understanding that steel with high nickel content when blued, if temps are not kept perfect for the job....it later turns majenta color....not a flaw, only a control issue and can be resolved without much effort! Cheers, 470EDDY

All: Please understand I placed the notice of sale on the forum merely to aprise the members of it's availability. It was my thought that if someone was interested they would contact Murphy directly and obtain whatever information they required. Seems I was incorrect in my supposition and most who follow this forum are only interested in seeing pictures. I shall not be doing this in the future. Zim, in my case, it is a photo that sparks the interest! I need another 416 Rigby like I need a hole in the head, but a knockout rifle at the right price would do it! But, knowing this, I am not going to go out looking! Hope this makes sense!!! Peter. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee.
