I think that Kenny Jarrett came along at the right time and enjoyed some very good press. I have never been really enthused about his chamberings but they were innovative. I am all for anyone making money in this competitive field. At this point in history we enjoy more alternatives than anyone ever has. We have some incredibly talented gun makers on this forum. The Mausingfield action is interesting. It is the closest thing to the original Mauser design incorporating many of the original elements. While the bolt handle is not my particular cup of tea it does serve it's purpose. It is in keeping with the PRS long range designed handles. It is a strong design and has been tested well. I am not sure just why he chose to make if from 4340 but it's his design. One wonders what one of our fine gun makers could do with that design. The guy used ideas from Savage, Remington, Springfield and Mauser. It may not win many beauty contests as offered but it does have potential. At $1600 for the action alone it is a bit pricy, but they do sell. Joe

Butch, I don't think anyone has bought into it yet. He is small potatos, couple thousand units a year so far. He has other designs, have you been to his website? He has an entire rifle, not sure if he has this sold or what. You know those engineers that are tough to talk to because they are about 20 miles ahead of you and in the ionisphere? That is him.

BWW...Hmmmm...sounds like you know this man well. You've had conversations with him? I have an entirely different spin. He's been to my shop a couple times. His products ARE ahead of the curve, but he explains them in fully understandable English.

I met Kenny Jarrett 10+ years ago at a friend's house. My acquaintance loaned him a bit of cash in his early days and Kenny kept him in rifles ever since. He was quite the gentleman and I enjoyed his stories. As far as being the sole supplier of ammo to his customers, it seems he took a hint from the British makers of yesteryear. If he can sell rifles, ammo, and have happy customers, who am I to say they cost too much or aren't well made? Hunting: Exercising dominion over creation at 2800 fps.

I received the Jarrett Custom Precision Predator 378wby and installed new 4.5x14 Leupold. This is my first experience with a Jarrett Custom of any kind. It was a gun customized in 1999. All I can say is it shoots! The very first group out of it I shot was .662 center to center @ 100yds. It was not even the load he developed for the gun. I am very satisfied with the rifle and the deal I got on the rifle! Regards Mark

Mark, was that the one from Sportsman's Legacy on GB? I'd been watching that for a while. Great buy and an absolutely awesome caliber!

Biebs Yep. I have been watching it too and decided to give it a try. And I too really like the caliber!

Duane, Teds a nice guy, I asked a somewhat technical question and got an over the top engineer answer. He is making huge inroads because of websites like Snipershide. At $1600 he isn't the cheapest option on the block, but I think his action is among the best. It is the only non-700, non-3 lug, military grade bolt action available to the public. And a couple of smiths like Chad Dixon are pushing it hard. Chad is kind of a neat guy himself. Worked for Anschutz as a smith, built a business based on his war contracting profits in the desert and because of doing everything on a CNC has the ability to turn out a full house custom rifle in a few days.

Back in the day, I had a Jarret prepped 700 (whatever he did to the action, barreled, scoped, etc. in his shop). IIRC it was a 300 win mag. Nice rifle, accurate as I could shoot off a rest with a bunny bag. Zero complaints on fit or finish, it was a well built, accurate rifle. When I started down the F TR road, I discovered Speedy Gonzales. I can build a decent rifle. My wife has been shooting one of my F Class sticks built on a Savage in 260 AI for a while now and her go to varminter is another Savage 22-250 AI with a 1:7" kreiger chambered around the 75gr A Max. both of her Savages print 2" or under at 500 with Zeiss and Sightron glass respectively. Point is, there are some great builders who command top dollar, but there are also a whole bunch of "also-rans" out there who know their business very well and can build very accurate rifles for reasonable and realistic money. If I could afford another Jarret, I might buy one just to see if the new action is up to snuff, but meanwhile I have a Rock Creek, a GA Precision, An HS precision and a few of my own builds on Pandas and Surgeons to keep me occupied. From the whining sounds coming from a lot of folks on this forum it would be fair to assume they think all gun builders should accept a vow of poverty rather than charging an hourly rate equal to their local auto mechanic Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship Phil Shoemaker Alaska Master guide FAA Master pilot NRA Benefactor www.grizzlyskinsofalaska.com

Makes no sense to operate a shop charging less than the guy that's repairing your new, $4000 zero turn lawn mower, or like was mentioned, your local auto mechanic that's keeping your $60,000 4 wheel drive, shiny 4 door pick-up runnin' good.

Duane, Hopefully it only takes 15 minutes. $4000. for a new zero turn radius mower? I think mine was 50% higher 15 years ago.

Happens just about every time she gets behind them. I am the builder of both rifles, Fred Moreo "timed" the F Class rig and both guns wear his triggers, but the barrels are both Kreigers I cut, crowned and threaded with Dave Kiff's reamers. Used the same reamers to clean up the dies and she uses bushing neck dies for the .260 as well as the 22-250. Her bench rig is a Nesika built by Tom Gonzales in 6PPC. Hair, not Air! Rob Martin

Course she just smacked me on the back of the head and told me to change that to 3-4" groups at 500. I have saved a bunch of her good targets over the years and she can smack 'em, quite a few half minute or better groups. Open invite for ya, Butch. We have an 850 yd practice range with steel at 300, 500 and 800. You are welcome to come on down to Sunny Florida and shoot with us, I'll even put you up in the spare room. Several here know us, including a moderator or two. Hair, not Air! Rob Martin
