It is a race to get as much work out before the newest member of my family arrives. I have several projects that have intermittently been in process and I am trying to get them all out the door this year.

As many seem to like "in process" threads as much if not more than the completed, here is one that is NOT complete.

This is a Norwegian Krag that is being re barreled with a Kreiger barrel, it will retain its original caliber in 6.5x55. I am fitting original Lyman Sights front and rear. I will post pictures of the somewhat unique extractor cut and sights once completed. Barrel is stainless, it will be duracoated, and the receiver re-blued.

The Norwegian Krag is a left Hand Square thread. The original barrels look the be threadmilled from something like a gear hobber, not turned on a lathe. The are very crude and vary in dimensions. Because of this I usually machine a "blank" first, to verify dimensions.

Will post more progress as it happens. I hope you enjoy.

As a side note, it is interesting that a previous Norwegian Krag I did, which was a Steyr contract manufactured in 1895 was NOT a square thread, but rather an ACME thread.

If I had not measured the threads under an optical comparator, I would have assumed they were just poorly made square threads. The action and original barrel, were in fact, ACME. (Metric Trapezoidal, though I am not sure when that became prevalent)

Not long ago, I barreled one of these in 7x57 (marked it 275 Rigby). Worked great. Regards, Bill
