Hello fellas, I was made a gift of a Model 70 pre-64 featherweight in 30-06. It's a great little rifle but is in some rough shape. I'll need to have a new stock made. Nothing fancy, just a nice dark straight grained piece of walnut with standard checkering. The safety will need repairing. The flag, springs, and pin were apparently lost some time ago. All metal will need cleaning and a re blued or perhaps gun-kote. The barrel may need to be replaced itself. The old girl needs some work but it's worth doing it for sentimental reasons alone and it will be neat(not to mention handy) to have her come back to life and see some more days afield. I'm in South Texas and would love to get some suggestions of who might be able to help me and be somewhat reasonable in terms of prices and turnaround. I'm not stingy or in a terrible hurry. I know that good work takes time and some money, just looking for fair. Thank you gentlemen.

You could check with Jim Kobe. He seems to work on a lot of pre-64 Model 70s.

Wayne at AHR has worked on a number of rifles for me, but his is a busy shop so I do not know what their turn-around time is now.

Not suggesting you phony up a super grade, but John Vest has patterns from Earl Milliron,. that has the "chin strap" cheek piece associated with M-70 super grade, and his semi inletting is about as good as you can get

A good place to start if you want as much quality as you can get for the buck. A good stockmaker to finish it up, you'd have a darn pretty rifle.

Couple more to add to your list. John Farner (toomanytools), and DPCD both have exhibited some great work here. Any of the folks mentioned could restore that rifle.
