Well, I have seen lots of pictures but no real information. Lets suppose I want to buy a 318 WR. I could buy an old WR or I could have a custom rifle built, so:
What are the pros and cons?
What am I looking at dollar wise for a custom rifle?
Who would I go to?
Thanks, peter.

Want to save money and time, buy the one listed in the Classified section for $5K and have it in two weeks. Want to do a custom, be prepared to pay roughly twice that and wait approximately a year for a work of art.

Here is the .318 WR I want to build:

Thanks Mike! I saw that ad after I posted this item! Two things:
What "modern" caliber is close to/better than the 318WR?
What gun does you picture show? it might be worth a 1 year wait (and the extra bucks) for THAT gun!
Peter.

Ballistically the .318 WR is very similar to the .338-06, a .30-06 necked up to .338. Factory ballistics for the .318 WR were a 250 grain bullet at 2400 fps.

I really do not know the linage of the rifle pictured. I saw the picture, fell in love with the rifle, printed the picture and sent it to Duane Wiebe and told Duane to keep the picture for when we build our .318 WR. May be someone else has some background on the rifle, but to me it is stunning.

Ask him if it is cheaper if he builds two!

Perazzi will build you a custom trap gun, fitted like a suit. On the high end grades, they'll fly you to Italiy, put you up, entertain you. Very much like an African safari.

Evidently, we're talking comfortably (uncomfortably) above $10K - $15K.

The way I shoot trap, the Browning Citori off the rack works for me.

I just copied the picture and emailed it to Kevin Kilday at the Westley Richards store in Montana, asking him for it's lineage, reproduction cost, and other details. Should have some information back soon....Biebs

Here's the Westley Richards info :

Mr. Bieber,
Actually I believe this rifle was featured in our catalog and may have been used somewhere else at some point though I don’t remember where. The picture in our catalog had a white background but I’m pretty sure it is the same rifle. It definitely isn’t one of my stock photos and hasn’t been featured on the WR website ( at least the US one) that I can remember.
As for lineage can’t give you much there either but the rifle is probably about 10 years old. Current base pricing for a new bolt action is £12,250 (approximately $20K) and you add on your extras from there. Typically they usually come out between $25-30K without any fancy engraving. It takes approximately 18 months to build one.
Here is the pricing for those that want to price one out:

Bolt Action Rifle
Standard Rifle In Calibres Up To .505 Gibbs £12,250.00

Extras

WR Combination Foresight £1,250.00

Ramp Foresight £395.00

The WR above was definitely in the WR catalog, circa mid to late '90's, but not later than '98 with the same background. I don't know the origin of the digital version, but I had the catalog way back then and I remember which house I lived in. I picked up the catalog at the SHOT show in Atlanta (I think).
