Custom Mini Mauser Finished
Custom Mini Mauser Finished
It's been a long journey but now it's finished! The rifle is the result of a combined effort of Shane Thompson and James Anderson. The engraving was done by Roger Kehr. The nitre bluing was handled by Roger Ferrell. It all started a few years ago when I sent Shane Thompson a Mini Mauser action for a simple barrel job. Things got out of hand and this is the final result. To say I'm happy with the results of their efforts would be the understatement of a lifetime. IMO, it's a true masterpiece built by two world class gunsmiths.
One thing the pictures don't show is just how petite this little rifle truly is. At only 5 1/2 lbs. before optics it makes all my other rifles feel like clubs.
The details of the build are too long to list but the results are obvious.
The photographs below were taken by James Anderson. They're pretty nice. Hopefully He'll send a few more.

Anton van der SpekWow what a beauty (Dit is 'n moerse mooi geweer)
I like the straight stock with no or little drop on the comb. I am envious. Congratulations I know she will serve you well.
Hi Terry,
The rifle looks great! Everything about the rifle speaks first class all the way!
I have never seen the reciever side wood (opposite bolt) cut that way on a Mauser, it looks very nice....where did you pick that style up from?
Best,
Jim

Mark RCan I please have more info on the action of this wonderful rifle. Is it a 'Kurz'??
Cheers,
Mark.

ForrestBCorrection. I would change one thing...slide the scope forward just a fraction of an inch so the gold bands line up.
Other than that, it's perfect.

D HumbargerMan That little rifle is a real gem! I would love to see a photo of it next to a full sized 98 sporter to dramatize the scale.

That would be a treat especially if the fullsized rifle was of the same exquisite workmanship as this one.
I have followed the build on another thread and it was evident right from the get go that it would be a stunner and it certainly is. Kudos to all involved.

Tsquare2Terry,
The rifle is simply magnificent. I know all the guys who worked on it, and they outdid themselves.
If you can get me a couple photos in Hi Res, I'd like to run the rifle in my Custom section of Gun Digest next year. PM me with any questions.
Again, congratulations to all involved.

Here are a couple of it while it was in the white. The barreled action next to it is a BRNO 21H.
Here it is next a 1910 Mexican small ring.

butchlambertWell Terry, it looks even better than the photos that you sent last week. All of your chosen craftsmen did an outstanding job. If it hadn't been you for your vision, it would have been a nice rifle, it would not be the superb rifle that you have. Roger Kehr's subtle engraving is just great. Shane and James, you guys did a wonderful job.
Now that you have Terry's done I'm looking forward to mine James.

Can you give the dimensions of the stock? Drop at comb, drop at heel, and forearm length

gunmakerThanks for the kudos guys. This project wouldn't have come to pass without Terry's direction, funding and that beautiful blank. The checkering pattern was spawned from some pics that ForrestB sent of some English style guns from Pugs Guns. I convinced Terry he didn't want just two panels on the grip. More work to layout but well worth it.
For Les:
LPO 14"
DAC 5/8"
DAH 1-1/2"
grip pull 4-1/16"
forearm 7-1/2"
The mag box has been decked 1/8" to slim the profile and trigger set back in the guard a little.
I've got more pics I want to send Terry. We've been talking about which background to use. Maybe I'll do a poll with one pic and several backgrounds. It's fairly easy to change and really impacts the look dramatically. My new avatar is a tiny slide show of a few different backgrounds. I kind of like the blue and red.
TC,
That rifle is nothing short of exquisite..WOW!
Kudos to all who were involved in the building of that VERY FINE rifle.
A picture of that rifle should be on the cover of an exclusive custom rifle magazine.
It's magnificent in every respect. I do like the stock's cheek piece...
