I need recommendations on where to order a nice wood sporter stock for a 1917 Enfield based rifle. When I say wood I do not mean a laminate just for clarification. Looking for something at least semi-fancy. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Dave In 100 years who of us will care? An armed society is a polite society! ive used Boyd's in the past... and have 2 new JRS sporters in walnut waiting on projects... my Remington 30 project... ( same as a 1917 enfield) used a Wenig stock... AAA walnut, palm swell.... great people to do business with....Richards and great American are 2 places that were difficult to deal with... go big or go home ........ Depends on how much $ you want to spend; from Boyds for less than 100, to many of them. Fortunately, GAG is long dead (Walnut Grove has their patterns; I don't know anything about their service but it has to be better than GAG was). Never had any problems with Richards, since 1974. Ramrod, here on AR, has some very good patterns. | |||

Depends on what you want to spend, sending a nice chunk of walnut to a stylist as Duane suggested is always the better route as simi finished stocks are never just right, as you can take wood off but you can't put it back..most simi finished can be repaired pretty well, and make a nice hunting rifle. So if I was building a rifle for hard use and one I didn't want to spend a lot of money on nor have pamper, a simi would suit me..but if I was building a true custom rifle then I would opt for the stylist for a perfect fit..Just my two bits.
