Just finishing up on this 94. Two barrel takedown with half octagon barrels chambered in 25-35 and 38-55.

Sorry for the raw photos. I rarely get a chance to photograph assembled guns.

Really nice, looks like an early factory engraved gun.

That's just awful engraving... So awful, in fact, that I would be honored for you to do one of my guns...

You're an artist, for sure!

Keep posting pics! Love to see this kind of stuff!

Beautiful work Roger. Really shows how smooth and clean it is in your closeup photos. If it can hold up to that, it can sure hold up to the naked eye.

It reminds me very much of Lynton Mckenzie's scroll and border work.

Very nice indeed and the borders are very nice with just the right amount of engraving. I really like the overall pattern and the execution is fantastic!

That's the very first thing that I thought, Its very much equal to or a tad better. My favorite style of engraving.

The background has a very fine stipple applied. The black is mostly from shadow, but I use a fairly heavy paste wax on the metal for scroll layout. So the shading and stipple has the wax plus oil embedded into it.

For engraving on SS guns or French grayed guns I use the heavy wax and rub a little bone black or soot into it. It will stay until you rub it out, but I just re-apply a little wax(I wax most of my guns anyway. I live in the NW.)

This rifle will be Carbonia blued and won't need anything in the cuts. The shading and stippling will stand out all on it's own.

Beautiful. Do you have to anneal the receiver before you can engrave it?

No annealing. In fact, most guns don't need to be annealed. If they are too hard/tough to engrave without annealing I normally take a pass.
