Chris Matthews of Longshot Rifles built my lightweight LR rifle in 6.5x47 Lapua for me about 16 months ago. After carrying it a bit last elk season, I decided it needed a diet.

-Pierce SA
-26" #3 Broughton
-McMillan Rem Sporter in grey
-Black Cerakote
-NF 2.5-10x32mm
-Pierce 1-pc 20moa alum base
-Farrell 30mm alum rings
-Rifle Basix @ 2.5 lbs
-PTG round alum bolt knob
-PTG alum BDL bottom metal

Sent it back to Chris for a little diet.

-Shortened breech cone by 1.5" to 24.5".
-Turned down the middle of the action a skootch. I wanted more but left it up to his discretion.
-re-Cerakote
-painted stock green
-ran the same reamer to rechamber.

-metal removed from middle of action

Some different lighting

Let's hope the accuracy remains the same after loosing 6.5 oz.

833 yds, 30 deg down hill from prone using SnipePods

Unfortunately Chris is in bankruptcy. Too bad as he is a good smith.

Probably could lose some more if you changed the NF scope to a Leupy

Blake,

I got the work done in trade. A new LAR AR15 upper and an off shoot light that attaches to an AR15 Picatinny rail. Won both at the 2011 and 2012 Utah State Sniper Shoot. So in effect, didn't cost me a thing. Chris never put a price on it so, I'm sorry to say, I can't say what it cost......especially now that Chris is out of business.

Malm?????

Where you been???

Lanny,

Trust me, I'm still mulling that over. Could lose about 5 oz going to a 4.5-14x40 but I trust my NF. Research shows me most Leupolds are good (I've owned plenty) but their is the occasional lemon.

Went out yesterday with some pressure ladder loads to find out what would be a good place to pick up where I left off before the diet.

Once I zeroed @ 100 yds with a couple/four shots that ran about 2650 fps I moved the target out to 416 yds. Why 416 yds? 'Cause it was handy where I was shooting!

My old standby load worked to 1/2 MOA perfection. I'd settled on 42.1 gr of Rel 17 which gave me about 2960 fps and 8 SD. Chopping off the 1.5" of barrel happily gave me about 2912 fps.
