Other than SDH's books, look for Tom Turpin's 2 books. Some fabulous photos.

Well, Michael as I already have your book and continue to enjoy it, my main interest is in riflesmiths of say the present day to the last 75-100 years, even picture books help me sratch the itch. I've gotten what I can from the guild, I have come to really appreciate the fine stock and metal work that is and has been done using model 70 and mauser actions. If any of you other folks don't have Michaels book I highly recommend it.
Thanks for the input thus far.

Truth is, I have another book mostly written, but alas, no publisher.

Michael Petrov's book is about Pre-WWII Custom Rifles, mainly American made. The best, and only book on the topic. Available from Michael Petrov, 923 West 74th Ave., Anchorage, AK 99518. (I believe about $30 PPD??) A required volume for anyone interested in Custom Guns and their makers.

Got one on the list, I have been wanting to buy the Oberndorf sporting rifles book, but just could not afford it. I found one yesterday on amazon for $102 shipped. Close to $100 less than I see it at gun shows, and $50 less than most everyone else on Amazon.

Dick Simmons wrote it and the pics are small with little or no detail, but it'll give you an idea of the overall shaping. He also wrote another book but I've never seen it.
Regards, Joe

Kiwi,

I've not written a book with the title, "Art of Custom Rifle Making," which might explain why you can't find a copy. I think you must be thinking of "Mastery of Wood & Metal, The David Miller Co." It is now out-of-print, and was never well distributed by the publisher. It is pretty hard to find for that reason. I think I might have two or three copies here somewhere. If you're interested, send me a PM.

Tom
