Well, its all of a piece, as they say. It appears that you somehow altered the bolt for some reason, and perhaps altered the inside of the front ring as well.

Ah! So originally I had an explanation written up for that. Started out something along the lines... Either I am stupid or...

The majority of 527's I have built for customers have been 22 Hornet actions, which have all been a standard Mauser type flat face with an extractor cut. The few 223 actions I have built or handled have all been basically the same sans extractor cut. I even talked to a few friends who are smiths and they reported the same experience. This rifle however, the standoffs were proud of the C ring and the extractor was also proud of the C ring. You can't see it in the pictures, because I couldn't get a good shot of anything for perspective. I thought about doing a 700 style breech in miniature, and I thought about doing a cone style breech as the lugs are tapered a bit at the front. None would really work right.

An Officer in the Serbian military developed the "Safety Breech" that was used by Mauser Oberndorf for the Serbian contract 1910 rifles and Costa Rican 1910 rifles. The bolt in the picture is from one of these rifles. So I did a modified safety breech. I ground the standoffs and fit the bolt to mate just shy of flush with the face of the barrel. The extractor cut provides clearance for the extractor.

The Serbian/Yugoslavian rifles have a standing ring that mates with the bolt face to provide the safety breech. This also provides for almost complete support of the case head.
