I just finished the two week stock making course a couple weeks ago and would recommend it for anyone who would like to learn the finer points of stock design and making. I have been doing some of this for a while along with my duplicator. Teaching myself with no rules to go by. This is a class where you can learn as much as you want with no one driving you to do more. The required tool list is extensive and you could get by with a little less but what to leave out is the question. I had most of the tools and didn't buy much. There was eight in the class and the instructor and two custom smiths as helpers so help was not far away if needed. If you would be interested contact the college and have the info sent to you when registration starts for next year. It was late October, early November last year. Kenny

Do you have a photo or two to show us of what you made while you were there?

Kenny, From a semi-inlet or a blank? Was Chuck Grace the instructor?

Dave Clayton Nelson was the instructor. Chuck Grace stopped in about every day, walked around, chit chatted a little. He did some checkering on a stock a couple days. I had planned to do a blank that had the inletting done with no other work on the blank for a CZ 455 but we had been shooting prairie rats before I went to Trinadad and the bolt was only cocking part of the time. When I got to the school I changed horses and did a roughed out stock with no inletting and did it for a CZ 527. One of the smiths in the class fixed my CZ 455 and said he had seen several. I still have the tip and cap to put on my stock and the final finish. I have the one marked out for the 455 and hope to do it this winter. After seeing it done I am confident I can do it. A good steady hand with a bandsaw saves a lot of time. My wife has family in Frisco CO so she stayed there. In Colorado they still have busses and shuttles which worked out well for us. Kenny
