Someone told me the supplied bases as shipped from Dakota on rifles were different than a regular Talley base and required a different ring. Has anyone ever heard that?

Yes. I had a set of Dakota rings to fit some custom bases I had made. The Dakota rings were shorter, front to back, than the standard.

My notes reflect Dakota base opening is .750 while Talley bases are .800.

I've used Talley vertical split rings for years on most all of my guns and didn't know this. I have a Dakota Model 10 ordered and this subject was brought to my attention.
