This is a flintlock I made as requested by a customer 50 yrs ago. I cut the stock out by hand from a good piece of maple which he had furnished. This was a challenge for a young man trying to learn stock making of muzzle loaders. This is number two of black powder rifles at that time. More to follow in the next post with the details of how it had to be made.
The wood had to dark streak which looks like the bear was shot. All pieces of this rifle had to be take down so the engraver could finish the shading of all parts for detail. These were held in with hidden bolts and nut on the inside of the patch box.
The patch box and other pieces were made of German Silver and cut out by me. The carving had to match for metal finished as the engraver say his way to design these parts. I had to come up with the wood carving as raised wood and that was a little hard to do.

My price for making the flintlock rifle was $600 labor 50 yrs ago. All parts furnish by customer and it took about one yr to get everything done and assembled after the engraver completed his work. I can't remember the engraver as he was a friend of the customer.
