| quote: Originally posted by rnb: after almost 13 years I have finally finish my 300 H&H single shot rifle. The action is a copy of the Hagan action serial number 8 that was built for John Rigby of California and is now being built by Butch Searcy. The barrel was built by Custom Barrel and Gun works the barrel is 26 inches in length and is octagon with the quarter rib with cuts for Talley rings and front sight base machined in place. The wood was provided by Luxas Walnut it was a outstanding blank with great color and very dense. The Butt plate is Recknagle trap door from New England Custom Guns. The engraver was Mark Swanson in old English rose and scroll, he also covered the butt plate with engraving and stippling. The final builder was Glen Morovits who stocked the project and finished the complete gun, The action was French Grayed and the Barrel, lever and butt plate rust blued. A set of Talley lever 30mm rings and a Schmidt Bender 1x8x42 Stratos finished the completed package. The final weight without scope 71/2 pound and with scope mounted 9lb 4 oz over all length 43 inches the iron sight are set to shoot 2 inches high at 100 yards with Hornaday factory ammunition and with a scope in place the gun shot a three shot group that was .70 of a inch. When was final completed I realized that I had failed to have sling swivels installed and I guess I will have to live with out them. I have photos but no matter what I have tried I have been unable to include the photos. I want to thank Butch Searcy with his help on the project to get the action working. RNB

That's just your opinion! However, I happen to completely agree!

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:
"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

| rnb, you are the Sally Rand of photographers. Sally used to perform her fan dance in such a way that a little, but never all, of her body was exposed at one time. Do that magnificent rifle a favor and photograph it with an uncluttered background and in such a way to first show the whole rifle, then close ups of the individual parts. If you want an example of how a rifle should be photographed, take a look at the photographs on Hallowell & Co.'s web site. http://www.hallowellco.com/ |

| When I have some time I will try for better photos I thought the other showed enough of the rifle, but will try to post more and clearer shots but I only will be using a IPhone. RNB |

| Rnb, That is truly a master piece of fine art! It is as you say, a real shame about the studs for the sling swivels. I'm curious to know how much effort to install by your stock maker. Due to the short length of the forend (which I personally really like the look of), would it be a fair assumption you would be looking at a sling swivel stud being braised onto the barrel, or barrel band, then a sling swivel Stud inletted into the bottom of the stock?

| I talked with JJ Perodeau in OK about adding a soldiered on mount on the barrel and a standard sling mount on the stock and he was a worried about damaging the bore with the heat so he recommended just leaving like it is if I was to do it over I would have had a sling point machined into the barrel blank. As for the short forearm I was looking for the English style look of the early part of the 20th century plus it think it just goes with the project |

| Well hunting season for deer in Kansas has come to a close for another year , I was able to use the new rifle on a early season deer hunt and was able to take a medium size white tail deer with on shot of 300 H&H 165 gr hand load. This gun project is now officially complete, time to start something else. RNB |
