Please tell me how you shaped the bolt handles on the Turks.
They look great and I cant see that they were cut and welded.

Pokin fun?
The handles on the Turks are as shaped in Germany a few years ago. Done right the first time.

The handle I put on the Mini Howa in the classified section was dovetailed and silver soldered. Copied from the Turk Oberndorf. I set up one of the Turk bolts in the mill vise and used an edge finder all the way around it. Then plugged these #s into my CAD program and scaled it down to appropriately fit the Mini Howa. There are several radius on the knob. Many more than I thought it would be.

Here's another scaled down copy of the Turk knob. It's welded halfway up the shank. Can you see the weld? I can't.

Those Turk bolt handles have not been reshaped or replaced, they are the issue Oberndorf military ones. Just like the 1909 Peruvians.

I never said they weren't the original handle. Just the best classic shape made IMHO.

Lindy, you know that James is a real gunsmith, not a parts put together person. I think you will find that he is as talented as anybody anywhere.

You still trying to be a lawyer?

Well I can say one thing, I have 4 Turk actions and none of them have that style of handle. All of mine are round like every other military bolts I've seen. I'm not poking fun...I'm envious.

If yours were pieced together they probably have Yugo intermediate bolts in them. From the factory, those 1903's were supplied with the Oberndorf style handle pictured. I have several in the safes that still have this type handle.

They do look good, don't they.

Magnum Hunter, It may be as ZLR says, or you may have Turkish actions that were manufactured later on by the Turks, that are not the original 1903 model made by Mauser in Oberndorf. Those later actions have a standard length M98 bolt with a round knob that you observed, and they do not have the elevated clip charger on the bridge.

Gunmaker,

I was not responding to your post, but to Magnum Hunters question about shaping or welding on new ones.
