I just do not see the need for this type of hybrid action.

The bolt knob is about as ugly as one can get to me. Younger kids may like the knob but that would the first item changed for me. I also do not like they scope rails - at least not for a hunting rifle but for shooting long range at steel plates it would come in handy.

Also, the ejection port seems rather small, especially for one to use on dangerous game.

Overall their action is not as nice looking as some of the others produced now such as those made by Defiance and Stiller.

For a switch barrel rifle I would look at HS Precision. They did make a few using Winchester Model 70 actions but not sure if they do that since they have their own in-house action. If they would not make one on a Winchester Model 70 actions, and I was going to spend such big bucks, then I would look at a Granite Mountain Arms action and find me a good gunsmith adept at making switch barrel rifles.

IF I was going to shoot varmints-hands down HS Precision switch barrel rig.

Just my thoughts and best of luck to you on your project.

Thank you Duane.
Yes have spoken to him and will again.

Butch,
No not visually pleasing,
however I have changed/ replaced many bolt handles

Marley,
I have made rifles on Mausers, Winchesters and others. (including switch barrels-)

I Have not however made one on a round bottom action with control feed extractor in left hand

guess with a few hundred rifles--I do not need another one

I'm sorry, maybe it's because I'm new here, but: I don't see anything to look hard at. No photo, not even a link. What gives? What am I missing here?

You can't break up the set. It goes so well with the matching purse.

I've put barrels on a few of the Mausingfield actions. They are a good solid heavy receiver that does a good job of supporting the barrel and optics for long range shooting. So it it does what it's designed to do.

Yes, you could build a 404 Jeffery on said action but I'm pretty sure you'll be feeding it thru a dBm system as the m-fields I worked with had no feed rails. DBm feeding only.
How does a dBm system hold up to the heavy recoil of a 404, my guess is expect problems if not immediately , eventually due to recoil and sheet metat magazine boxes, with plastic followers.

How to make it work?
Machine feed rails into the receiver, maybe they offer that by now.
Make a true one piece magazine box for it.
Machine the center of the picatinny rail out and open up the ejection port.

I wouldn't discourage switch barrel guns, if in the same cartridge "family" i.e. 300 H&H and 375 H&H.

Having said that, I do not encourage a client to do so. When all's said and done, effort and expense you're better off with just making a nice takedown

Well, if I had known this the salesman in me would have come out and said "heck of an idea!" Big Grin

I did make a mistake in saying a HS Precision rifle is a "switch barrel" as it is a "take down" style. But, I figured you guys knew that.

I am glad someone has the means to do such things, as you contemplate, and I do hope you will post some photos of the completed project if you go forward with it.

Why not use a Defiance action with CRF? They make them with a full claw extractor as an upgrade and the action looks a helluva lot nicer than the mausingfield.
