I have a nice (unused) Brno ZG 47 in 7x64. I did not have the guts yet to touch it on the other hand I would really like to own a 9,3x64 and thought if the ZG might be the appropriate sytem for that. I would like to hear your opinions on my plan, I am only after 100% solutions, if the 9,3x64 is too long/ too much pressure I will go for the 9,3x62! Many thanks.

Send it to me, forthwith! I love these and have an original 9.3x62 in nice condition and two matching .30-06s. A friend of mine, born in Bavaria, obtained my ZG action, originally a .30-06 and had Ralf Martini build him a 9.3x64 on it and it is PERFECT, I keep trying to buy it from him. So, while I would not touch a nice one, I would choose this action for a 9.3 Brenneke over any other made. Good luck with it, sell the parts to help fund your project.

This is exactly the answer I was frightened to hear!! It took me 5 years to get a nice ZG 47, really amazing, I am always lloking to get another one but it seems impossible. @Dewey: I actually like the safety and also it is different from the common 3-position Win safety so I would love to keep that, may I ask for your opinion on that topic too?

OK, since you asked -- here's my opinion. I would absolutely NOT convert the 7x64 ZG 47 into a 9.3x64. First problem is that you would gain a 9.3x64, but at the same time lose a fine 7x64, original. And the newly built rifle will probably be worth less than the original. To me that is clearly not a 100% solution. I would keep the 7x64, and shoot it, and enjoy it. Also, if I wanted a 9.3x64, I would buy a CZ 550 in 9.3x62, and have the chamber cut-out to 9.3x64. This will require minor modifications to the action, such as open the bolt face a little, and perhaps buy a magazine box from CZ which they make for the 7 mag or 300 mag. It would be much more cost effective to up-grade the CZ 550 with nice wood, and other custom features. IMO they are pretty darn good rifles as they come from the factory, but they can be customized into something really special. I suggest that you contact Wayne at AHR. Here's the link. http://www.hunting-rifles.com/ I don't know how it all works shipping rifles between countries, but that is as close to a 100% solution that I can think of except just buying something in Germany in 9.3x64. But either way, I wouldn't use the 7x64 as a donor action, given my impression that the whole rifle is in good shape per your description. I leave the safeties on my pair of minty .30-06s alone as they are not hunted with and seldom even shot, in fact, I have yet to shoot one of them. On my original 9.3x62, I am changing the safety to a 3-pos. type ONLY because ALL my actual HUNTING rifles have that. Most ARE P-64 Mod. 70s and so is my working Grizzly gun and that is what I am used to. Here, in BC, where sudden, close range encounters with Grizzlies when hunting are a common occurence, one does not want a safety different than that on his other rifles on a given rifle, for obvious reasons. I would keep it as is and take Kabluey's advice and have a 9.3 Brenneke built on a CZ-550. I would have both safeties the same, but, that is less of a concern in Europe than here.

That action would make a very nice 9.3x64. Aut vincere aut mori

Agree, great combo the ZG-47/9,3x64. If I had a spare zg47 I would get right to building an 9,3x64. an 7x64 Brno21 & 9,3x64zg47 is about the perfect pair.
