Hartley burned or (suiged?) his maple...this looks more like walnut oil stain. Tried that ONE time with a blow torch..heat split the stock like an axe

Looks a bit like Kirk Jaeger's work in Germany.

I have to agree, that's the best looking maple stock that I've ever seen.

Agreed, and I am not a fan of the normal maple stocks.

I love maple stocks but I don't own a single one. Passed on a Hal Hartley years ago and kicked myself ever since.

I normally don't care for maple stocks but this one really caught my eye.

Then after staring at it for a while it started reminding me of an old ladies leg with varicose veins and I had to stop looking.

I think I've come full circle not caring for maple stocks.

It was beautiful until my imagination ran away with me.

This is one of several Winchester Single Shots I have owned which were stocked by Hal Hartley, using his distinctive maple finish:

I have one bird's eye Maple stock on a 9.3x64 Lon Paul built. It's cool but it always takes me a a while when I pull it out of the safe to get used to it while shooting....

I have a Paul Jaeger Pre64 Model 70 with the same checkering. It could be a Paul Jaeger. Jaeger usually used FN Mausers for their rifles. My Jaegers are not marked on top of the barrel as most are. Mine are marked on the bottom of the barrel just in front of the recoil lug with the Jaeger logo and date it was done.
