Took a few photos of the process I use while making custom bases to fit Talley rings on a Model 70. The blocks were profiled to fit the action bridges and then attached to the receiver and aligned before machining

I've been thinking about trying to make some custom bases like that myself. How do you profile the bottom of the bases to fit the receiver bridges?

You set a boring bar to the required radius & bore them.

That may be my OM 70 in the mill.

Jim did a great job of fixing a seriously "bubba'ed" OM 70 action he had for me, along with fitting a 458 barrel and chambering in 460 G&A (458 RUM).

Jim.
I got a good laugh about the RED dykem.

In my shop we only have one bottle of RED and many of BLUE.

BLUE is our normal color, and only use the RED if we mess up and the part is toast.

Regardless of dykem color still a good step by step of how to fit and machine the custom bases to fit the receivers.

That last picture is kinda bad. It should show how the front of the base is profiled in the lathe. My bad

I got mine. As usual, just some of Jim's usual ho hum outstanding work!!!! And with the customary Kobe quick turnaround time.

The guy never ceases to amaze me.

Those are the ones in the "process" pictures. You can see how the radius was cut in the front and back bases. A fun job!

Jim does pretty work!

Have made 5 sets for some of my Mausers. Love the way they look!

All are made with exactly the same mounting centers (within 0.001") so the scopes can be moved around if necessary without moving rings.
