The barrel band is quite a bit forward of the forend tip of the stock.

My question:.....is there a standard distance for this location?

Short answer is no. Generally at least 1/2 the barrel length and then toward the muzzle from there but dependant on barrel and forearm length and how the rifle will be carried.

The forend on this rifle is shorter than we yanks are used to, so the band looks to be way out there.

But, you put the band where you want it. The band is there for two reasons: Keep the lug away from your hand under recoil, and to allow the muzzle to ride low when the rifle is slung over the shoulder.

So, it comes down to personal choice, both in functiion and appearance.

I would try some mock ups first in order to get a good fit. Then do the permanent attachment.

Don't get the band so close to the forend such that the swivel loop contacts the forend.

There is merit in visiting your gun builder before sights & band are permantely installed to have a "try" at how things look and fit.

A forward fixed sling swivel seems to be a common trait with some Westley Richards rifles.
A great thing when tracking through low bush for miles.
Here is a 425 with a forward mounted sling attachment;
