On Monday afternoon my 12 year old Buddy Jack (a brownish Tabby) had a seizure. Thought it might be an isolated instance, but he had one the next morning.

Vet could not find anything wrong ... no temp, no blood evidence of an infection, no masses in his body that could be seen by x-ray.

He had three more seizures through the rest of the day and 4 each of the next two days. They were getting progressively worse.

I dug his grave yesterday. It's on a hill under a huge Oak tree and is looking down at the house. Catches the light in the late morning and late into the evening. He liked that place.

We made the last trip this morning and put him to rest.

He was a lovely, gentle, sweet Guy who came to us from the Vet's as an adopted stray 10 years ago at the age of about 2 years. He followed me around; slept in the shops while I was working; watched TV with me; and sacked out in the evening where he could lay against me. Had hoped he'd live to 18 or 20 as have several of our other kittens.

He was always a gentleman, wanting only a last snuggle this morning. I will miss him terribly. May he rest in peace.

That tears my heart out. I'm sure it is even much, much worse for you. I had to put my beloved "Bun" down last October 29. She had been with me for just exactly 4 months less than 26 years!!

God bless you & Jack!

My heart goes out to you as I have made that trip with so many pets over the years. I have held each and every one in my arms as the injection was given. I think they found great comfort in that, as well as I did, being with each to the very end.

Just found out my 14 year old DSH has a thyroid condition as well as a kidney stone. Rx diet is keeping him well. Will go in to recheck his T3 and T4 to plan thyroid treatment.

Sorry for your loss,
Mary

Mike,
Sorry to hear this came to pass. I know you provided him a great place to live and all the affection a cat could hope for.

I can relate. I had to put down Old Grey Cat on January 31st. The house is empty without him. It's a shame we outlive them. There's nothing like a good relationship with a cat of sterling character. My condolences.

Sorry to hear. I've had cats almost my whole life. A couple of months ago we lost Mitsy, a calico my brother found abandoned in a Boston truck facility when she was small enough to curl up in the palm of a cupped hand. She lived to the amazing age of 24. She was either indifferent or as mean as a snake to most humans and a real killing machine when young, and I loved her lots. My Mom found her curled up, looking for all the world like she was asleep, on one of their couches, dead. She is missed, but the sadness is tempered greatly by the fact that she lived a long and happy life as one of the family. She outlived 5 other cats and a dog by ten years. Sorry again for your loss, but your cat's life was a happy one with you, no doubt.

we had a grey tiger stripe barn cat/short haird siamese kitten met us at the back door one evening and just moved in. He was a smooth operator, and would stay up nights reading with me. About five years after he moved in I came home and found him laying on the back stair. The neighbor loser had changed the antifreeze in his clunker with his car wheels up on the curb and it ran down to the house we had in town. The vet had to put him down. The loser had a much more painful couple of weeks. That was ten years ago, and my wife will not let another one adopt us to this day.

I am very sorry to hear you lost your friend! We have five cats and they are all very special friends. All of them, except one were strays that we took in. They are total characters an keep us entertained constantly.

When ever we lose a pet, it is as though a member of the family has left us. So very sorry.

My condolances as well. Lost my cat Ralf to Cancer this spring, still a tough pill to swallow. No pet is quite like a good cat.

Cats are very special! When Buddy J gets old and passes, we will have a hell of a time with it.

Butch,

I do know what you mean. Still have two kits in the house. One (Socks) is very much like Jack ... they used to "position" themselves for who had the pleasure of closest company.

Even though he is very much a snuggler which makes Jack's loss a little easier, it is still difficult. Been almost a month ... and still tear up thinkin' about it.

Thanks for the understanding Guys.

I found my cat of 16 years dead last Saturday -she died peacefully outdoors. Even though we have a dog the house seems empty.

Take care, time heals.

I know it's tough, I've lost two cats recently and have two more that are on the way out.
You do the best you can for them and remember them when they are gone, like any other good friend.
