Well just moved back to the little town I work in due to gas prices. The 80 mile commute every day from Great Falls just isn't do able anymore.
So as a house warming gift my buddy Diggers wife Boo got me a kitten. This even knowing I'm a dog guy.
El Cato Loco is his name and after three weeks I have to admite he is pretty dang cool. Got him at 8 weeks old and he is full of piss and vinigar. So far he has been great company. He could be the twin for Happy Jack from the other thread on this section.
Only thing he has done to piss me off so far. He noticed a thread hanging from the side of my bed the other day, and being a kitten he just had to play with it! So does anyone here know how to reattach a pillowtop to the mattress? LOL!
Loco is a hand full but I think I will grow to love him.

Just remember, you're his first human. Wink

There may be some problems communicating at first but he'll eventually train you to do what he wants. Big Grin

He's working on it. Last night was his first thunder storm. He just sat in the window looking at the lightning and looking back at me as if to say. Holy crap are you seeing this stuff!!
Then I woke up to a whole roll of TP shreeded and strune all over the house. Geuss he got bored with the storm after I fell asleep:0
Loco is pretty cool, most of the time!

I used to have a cat that loved to pull the TP from the roll and shred it. Our cat that we have now likes to take walks with us around the neighborhood.

My oldster,(18 yrs), Old Grey Cat, follows me around like a dog. When I lived in Ft. Lauderdale, where I picked him up off the street, he would walk six blocks with me to the 7/11, always hanging back about three paces.

He's on his last legs now, but has been a wonderful friend. I just don't understand people who don't like cats.

Loco fallows me like dog around the house. Get mad if I'm on the phone and bits me so I will pay attention to him. Can't sleep more than three feet from my head at night. He has become a great little friend.
Sorry to here your cat is going to pass jetdrvr. 18 years is a long time. You could probebly fill these pages with stories.

you guys haven't mention the best things yet...

you don't have to walk it, just open the door and off he goes.
5-8 hours later he comes, you open the door, feeds him, and then he sleeps for a looooong time.

In our life cats have become like potato chips, "Bet'cha can't have just one"! My wife's a cat person and I've always had dogs, terriers to be exact. 8 years ago when I was dealing with a prolonged and serious illness it was her cats sleeping in my lap on the couch or rubbing their head up against my forehead that made me realize I'd been missing a bet for many years.
We now have 5 cats (I love every one), a Cairn Terrier (like Toto in Wizard of Oz), and a big Mali Uromastxy lizard.
We hunt, we fish, we shoot many many rodents a year that raise heck with the crops but we love our pets. What a gift, they certainly enhance our already blessed life.
My biggest surprise after becoming a cat lover was how different each cats personality is from the other even when raised in the same environment, more so that dogs raised similarly I think (I used to raise Airedales, LOVE EM TOO!).
Having spent a goodly amount of time in the USMC no one seems surprised I raised Airedales, when they see me with my cats they seem puzzled Big Grin, GOOD! Always keep em guessing.

Ya he is really growing on me. If I could just get him broke of the biting crap! He is a great friend already. I get home from a weekend of riding and he just can't nuzzle enough.
Now every one says I need anoughter one to keep him company while I'm gone.

My daughter brought home a smokey gray long nosed tom cat about 15 years ago. For some reason women are crazy about that gray cat. He practically had a fan club after my wife put pictures of him on her tack board at work. Several of her co-workers wanted to buy him. Apparently that cat breed is very sociable but only with one person. For some reason he adopted me and ignores everyone else except when he wants in to eat.
It is interesting to watch him outside. He is the only cat I have ever seen that hunts with his nose.

Several years after we got him the kids brought in a stinking mouse. I told them they had signed the mouse's death warrant. They had no clue what I was talking about. I said sooner or later that mouse will escape from the cage and you will not be able to find him. When that happens I am letting the cat in.
Eventually the mouse escaped. I looked for the cat but he was out on patrol. Later he came in the house to eat and I saw him sneak around the corner and bolt upstairs. An hour or so later he came down stair with a mangled but still living mouse. The girls had a hissy when it was discovered and it soon croaked.
Later I was up stairs and the cat came into the room where I load. He made a bee line for the closet so I followed him in there. Behind some .50 cal cans full of bullets where he was sniffing I found a couple of sunflower seeds. The mouse had already hauled them into the closet to live. Fortunately the mouse's life on the loose did not last long.
That was years ago. To this day the old cat still comes into the loading room to rub on me and check the closet.

Yeah, that's a really great thing about cats. Their self-sufficiency.
