Joe 45US Model of 1917
I recently acquired an Winchester US Model of 1917 rifle. I havent found much info on it and was wondering if anyone has any input. The few pictures I've seen on the net seem to look completely different than mine. I'm assuming mine has been sporterized because the stock looks way different and the blueing doesnt look in too bad shape. Are these rifles worth much? Havent shot it yet.

Great rifles...I have two, one Winchester and one Eddystone, both full military, and I have a spare receiver I’m going to sporterize at some point down the road when I get the time.
About the only thing I did to mine was replace the leaf spring style ejector with the coil spring version that is far less prone to breakage. You can get those from Numrich Arms for less than $5.00 and they install in minutes with no modifications to anything, they just drop in.
They ain’t worth all that much, especially if they’ve been sporterized and/or bubba-ized. You can find them for under $500.00 in military trim fairly often... but they are great rifles that you will have a ball shooting and playing with.

I have the same rifle that must have been done years ago, because it has a Herter's scope on it. I knew it was not a collecter when I bought it, but I fell in love with the trigger when I picked it up.
Shoots great and I would have a hard time trading it for anything.
Unless it was an especially good deal ...

ZekeI have a sporterized Eddystone with the two groove barel. Having a hard time deciding whether to rebarrel to something else or keep it in 30-06. It is in pieces right now while I refinish it.

In the article you refer to there is a reference to the M1917 Magazine Follower Depressor. I have a 1917 by Winchester that has been roughed out years ago (ears ground, etc.) and I have one of the depressors. How rare are these things? This is the only one I have ever seen and I was wondering if they were ever made for other rifles. I know the '03 and some Brit Enfields had a magazine cutoff device but I know of no other like the 1917 had.
Any info here?

Just read this article.. Although Zeke posted it in August.. It is an excellent READ... I pulled out my 1917 Enfield and 1903 Springfield just to check out a few things mentioned in the article...
Found out that the Springfield has a Nickel Steel receiver... COOOL
Found out also, my Winchester Made Enfield has a Remington made barrel on it, from Sept 1918...
An InBRED! OH well, it is one accurate SOB anyway... putting some varmint rifle to shame... which ain't bad for a 1918 made 30/06 barrel!
Whether Springfield or Enfield.. I sure like those rifles....
