My old man said he was talking to a cop the other day. He asked the cop about the WASR 10. The cop said that the WASR 10 was illegal in Maryland but ANY other AK-47 type rifle was perfectly legal. Does their sound like their is something weird about that or is it just me? Seems stange that they'd ban the WASR 10 but no othter AK. Does anyone on this forum live in MD and own a WASR 10 and know if their is any truth in this or just another cop full of shit?

According to my most recent copy of ATF PUBLICATION 5300.5 (State Firearms Laws) ALL AK-47 type rifles (no matter what company made it) fall under the “Regulated Firearms†statutes in Maryland.

I have no idea what a “WASR 10†is...but if it is an AK copy or clone then it would appear that it is regulated in Maryland.

The WASR 10 is the romanian AK-47 copy.

Then it, and all other AK47 copies/clones, is considered a “regulated†firearm in the state of Maryland.

I'm not the smartest person so what do you mean by regulated. If you mean their illegal, then with all respect your wrong or your information is wrong because I see AK-47 copies all the time at gun shows in MD. Just don't handle them so don't know if their the WASR 10 variant.

Title V Subtitle 1 of the Maryland state criminal code classifies ALL AK47’s, along with their copies and clones, as “regulated“ firearms in the state of Maryland.

I don’t live in Maryland, YOU DO, and perhaps as a gun owner in that state it might behoove you to make yourself aware of your states gun laws by requesting a copy from the State Attorney General’s office...and then you can figure out what they mean or don’t mean.

We were stationed at NSA in the Socialist Republic of Maryland from 2000-2002 and their so called Firearms Laws never ceased to amaze me. One of those was that you could walk into a place that sold riearms and pay for a Colt H-Bar and go home with it(completing the paperwork of course) but if the firearm was identical but made by say DPMS or Rock River etc... you had to go through the waiting period before you could take possession. Possibly the silliest Friearm law was the ballistic finger printing. I have to say that I killed more Whitetail Deer (legally)in The Socialist Republic of Maryland in 3 years than in all of my life before that. And I thought I had killed a lot of Deer before being stationed there. Saw my first bear in the woods(about 15 yds)I don't know who was scared the most, me or it.

Thanks DaveP for the correction, at least I was partially right. I was working from about a 3 or 4 year old memory and that is not usually good for me since I have been stricken with CRS Syndrome. I think it happens to a lot of us after we hit 40 or so. It's still a silly law. Was glad to see Glendenning out of there.

So once again, a firearm is "restricted" because of the way it looks!! Gee, I always thought the Luger or the Nambu were about the SCARIEST LOOKING guns ever built-along with the 7.92X33mm Sturmgewehrs!

Then wait 'til they take a gander at the side by side, single T-handled forearm, both sides-electing, pump shotgun I'm working on! Heck,Hollyweird will buy them up by the truckload.

Scary looking is in the eye of the beholder. What scare me is folks (And this includes politicians) voting on things on which they have NO understanding.More feel good BS.Well,at least it's put a stop to all the random, drive by bayonettings we used to have!

Hmmmm....how stupid is Maryland?

Son wants to build a match 1911 and wants a frame for Christmas...not a chance in Maryland. You can buy the whole gun, but not a frame...no barrel to fingerprint ya know!!

A neighbor's son works for Balt Co PD and he says it is cheaper to go to Baltimore and find a guy named Herman, give him your order and $300 and come back the next day...he will have scored exactly what you want..no paperwork or waiting period!! What's wrong with this picture!!

The stupid ass guns laws haven't done a thing to keep Baltimore out of the top 2 deadliest cities in the US...only Detroit is worse!! Liberals and Demicrats are to thank!!

The year of the .30-06!!
100 years of mostly flawless performance on demand.....Celebrate...buy a new one!!

CWathan,

He's probably right. In MD, there's a handgun roster board that approves each individual handgun. To be approved, it has to have a sporting or self-defense application. Based on this, some not-at-all gang banger types of weapons get rejected for sale in MD, like the little Bond arms derringers.

They also control weapons they have decided to define as assault weapons in a similar manner (with waiting period, additional paperwork, additional fees). I don't know if there's a different board approval for these or not, but I can probably find out at the place I shoot skeet next week.
