I have two CMP's. One was a service grade Springfield, all Springfield parts and a stock that looked like it was stored in drain oil. After a lot of work and two cans of oven cleaner the darn stock looks new and all the walnut matched. Good shooter, rebarreled sometime around 1956 SN shows it was in the last run of M1's made.
My other one I had to wait 2.5 years for, select grade. It's an H&R and was never reissued after it was rebarrelled. Stock was brand new birch with all the correct stamps , it has H&R everything except the trigger group is a Winchester, barrel stamp is 1966. this thing is like brand new.
$400 for service grade, $550 for select grade.

CMP is my favorite gun supplier!!.. I have 4 Garands, one from each manufacturer, a 1903, a 1903A3, a Win 52D, a Rem 541-X, a Mossberg 44US and a bunch of ammo and components from CMP. The stuff is always worth more on the open market than they charge.

I Just ordered a M1 Garand from the CMP. Has anyone ever received a bad one? I ordered a Springfield Armory service grade for $500.00. Are they worth it?

I hate to repeat Ray Atkinson, but you should ask BEFORE you buy. [Wink] Seriously, it will probably be a good gun.

Sometimes the CMP rifles can be a bit rough in the stock, but usally the metalwork and function is in good shape. If you have a serious problem, they are pretty good about making things "right". Given the current price of just about anything that says "M1" on it these days, it is not a bad value. Don't expect a totally pristine "match" bore, but a good solid rifle! Enjoy it as a classic with tactile history attached!

I have purchased 5 service grade garands, 1 select grade, and one M1D from the CMP. The very first rifle was the M1D and it was pristine. Unfired after the rebuild.
The second one I got was a service grade. Throat erosion measured 3.5, good muzzle but a stock that looked like it was bounced off of every rock on mount Suribachi. I brought my dis-satisfaction to the CMP and they very graciously replaced the stock. All others were more than satisfactory.

You won't be disappointed.

How do you check the pending orders to see if your number came up yet? I ordered a high number Rock Island '03 and would like to check on my status. Thanks, Roger.
