I use 174 grains, Sierra Matcking, .312, with good results, Lapua Brass, RWS primers, VV N 150 powder, 3 mps average deviation, perfectly sighted in @ 300 meters. Less good results with CCI BR primers, 7 to 12 mps deviation

Edmond.....thanks for the load information. i was actually wondering which of the surplus rounds would shoot best. i don't presently reload for this cartridge. so, i was wondering which military round, i.e. bullet weight, the rifle's sights were calibrated for. thanks again. sorry for the misunderstanding. by the way........what velocity do you get with this load. that would be a big help in getting to my answer. thanks.

I have to retrieve my CIP agreement since this load is the one I custom loaded for a government agency, IIRC it was around 820 mps in the pressure tube, 800 mps in the MN 1891/30 and 780 mps in the SVD (Dragunov. I tinkered with 32 combinations of bullets, powders and primers before to be able to duplicate the ballistic of the rounds used by the Soviets in their SVD. Speed was recorded at 12.5 meters from the muzzle. The SVD was brand new and I tested .308 and .312 bullets in it, not much difference but groups were better with .312. Hornady of similar weight gave good results, too. In my MN 44 carbine, arsenal new built in 1946, there was no difference for both diameters. In the MN 1891/30 that had seen some use, only .312 performed well.
