"Does anyone have any opinions of these rifles?" Not having seen one yet (my 1903 Springfield won't be back for a month or so), I can't really say. However they advertise to sell rifles that are the next thing to factory new. "I know they wouldn't have any collector value, but I am looking for a good shooter and they look like NIB rifles." There are two types of collectors. The first wants an "original" rifle, untouched, with all factory markings, blemishes furnished by time (if there are any), and what ever history comes with the piece. They accept no alterations to the piece not able to be authenticated by some military armory at some time. The second type just wants a good piece he can look at, hold, play with, and maybe shoot sometime. This collector is willing to accept something that's been restored by virtually anyone as long as it's a quality job that looks good and is safe to shoot. "One thing I did notice was that the K98k Mausers seem priced too high." Priced too high? I guess that depends on your opinion. If you want a K98 that's the next best thing to something that Mauser (or any other factory that manufactured rifles for the German war machine) produced on one of their better days, then it's not priced all that high. Ever see what "an original" pristeen, factory K98 was going for at auction or any other market? Much more than what Miltech is asking I'm thinking. There is another factor here I'm thinking. How many truly original military rifles, untouched since they left the factory do you think are available today? Not many I'm guessing. For example, take the M-1 Garand. I don't believe that there are really that many Garands available that are in the exact same condition or with all the exact same parts that they had when they left the factory. As we were at war, just about all the Garands that were produced (in WW II or during the Korean war) were issued to some soldier somewhere. Those that saw even moderate service were more likely than not rebuilt by some armory some where, with out regard to insuring that all the parts were from the same factory. And, think about this, even if someone wher to use the same factory parts, it's still not the same rifle as it was when it left the factory. Right? And every country that has ever gone to war has someone to refurbish weapons, whether a rock, sword, or rifle. So, how many are really, truly original? Your guess is as good as mine. I think the price is reasonable if you have the dough to spend and want an "as new" rifle. Regards, Eric "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately." If you want a shooter K 98k locate a russian capture or a yugo capture rifle. I have seen the yugos priced anywhere from $100 up to $300. RCs can be gotten anywhere from around $200 up depending on what you get. Miltech and Mitchels remanufacture there rifles and all you are really getting is an RC from them. Miltech is waaaay over priced. They're in the business of high end bubbfying rifles. Granted they do nice work, but you still end up with a bubba'd rifle. Spelling and grammar count. | |||

Well, my 1903 Springfield finally came back, after many months, but it was worth the wait. I have a new 1903, whereas before I had a POS that wasn't worth much. Money well spent in my opinion, however there are many that will disagree. Don't care. I'm happy. Regards, Eric "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."
