you can find the majority of headstamp codes/manfactures here, http://cartridgecollectors.org/headstampcodes.htm and if you look up AFF you will find it's made by "Small Arms Ammunition Factory No. 1 Footscray, Australia".

TailGunner,
Excellent website! Thanks for the info.

BTW, I've shot almost 600 rounds of ADI 7.62 F4 Ball, headstamp "90 AFF" from my SOCOM 16. Function has been without fail.

The Footscray factory equipment was shipped to Indonesia and all small arms ammunition now comes from that source. Australia has no military ammunition factory which is bloody stupid cos in the event of conflict we would probably have a national "buyback" of ammo.

Yes and No, The old Footscray machinery went to Indonesia but a new factory was opened in Benalla, Victoria closer to Mulwala Explosives factory and I have been in the new factory on a open day(about 4 years ago)and they do make 5.56NATO not sure on 7.62 they said they can but presently they do not which means they import. I saw 50BMG and a host of Aircraft munitions . The feeling I got was that the factory can provide all ammunition for the Defence force but if cheaper to import they will. The old machinery from Footscray was F****d so I am told but if Indonesia got it it must not be that bad also I believe Woodleigh Bullets bought some at Auction and they make some of the best bullets in the world so I think the Indonesians got a steal as usual from our appeasement to them. Personaly I think the machinery should have been kept in reserve or only to be used by a Australian owned company with restrictions not to be sold overseas
