GPC - Numrich substituing Enfield P-14 FPs for M1917 pin

Just a "heads up" to the military rifle shooting brethren that GPC - Numrich is knowingly selling/substituing Enfield Pattern 14 Firing Pins for their M1917 pins. This is NOT noted in any of their ordering information, and they refuse to credit the pin costs back (if you want to order the correct pins from Springfield Sporters). They claim that they have sold hundreds of these with no complaints.

They still list seperate part numbers for each firing pin, #413570 for P14 & #412620 for M1917, but only have the 0.052-0.055" tipped pins in their speedlock kits # 303560A & B. These pins are NOT interchangable as the diametrical clearances in the bolt face holes exceeds high power rifle design limits of 0.003 to 0.006".

Some of their pins were even original M1917 to begin with (eagle head stamped), but have turned down tip ends. Why?

This recently contributed to a M1917 rifle explosion at the local range, as the primer extruded backwards & blew out, releasing high pressure gas & ruining the stock & floorplate & shooters arm.

The standard M1917's 0.080" bolt face hole should have a 0.075" tipped pin for roughly .005" total clear. If the P14 pin is substitued/used, the clearance can be huge at 0.028" (.080" minus .052").

Just my 2 cents & a rant off my chest....

Welcome & thanks for the post; I wasn't aware of the dimensional difference. My speedlock striker assembly was from Numrich but back in the late 60s. I miked the original striker from my Eddystone M1917 and the tip is .078" I note that, in the current GPC catalog, the striker for the Rem 30 has the same stock number as the one for the M1917.

Re the undersized M1917 strikers... in his book on the Enfield, Stratton notes that "During WW2 many M1917 strikers were altered in England to fit the P-14 bolt body. Look at the markings but measure the tip diameter too!" Perhaps Numrich wound up with a number of these.

I may have one or two FP's if you need one. I need to measure the tips but I have 4 to choose from.
