Yes,
the 8x57 has been loaded by damn near every country in Europe and half of the rest of the world for over a century,it's been loaded with black powder and smokeless in round nose and spitzer type bullets. The Turkish cartridges I have were manufactured in the 1950's ,they have a flake type powder and they're loaded to the max, don't know about the Spanish or the German or the Yugoslavian or Romanian.......ect,ect

yes, Igman (Bosnia) still loads the 8x57 for military use. They use 3,0 grams of NCD powder (whatever that is) for the M-49 (heavy ball).

This guy (below) has more info on the Turkish 8mm ammo. Needless to say..... IT'S HOT!!! Eeker

Check the "data" link for velocities of various 8x57 ammo.

Interesting subject - I recall reading and wondering at the data in the old W. H. B. Smith's "Small Arms of the World" with the avg. velocity listed for the German WWII ammo - slightly hotter with a heavier bullet than was the GA 30-06! How they did and what they loaded I have no clue - I sure can't find any data that comes close in my manuals. I did once have some German civilian ammo with ~200gr bullets [TUG?} that were absolutely hotter than hell! I was amazed that they shot as well as they did and showed no signs of pressure even with the sway they zipped out of the barrel! I really wish I had some of that stuff left to shoot through the chrono - interesting to see exactly how fast it flew.

Lord, give me patience 'cuz if you give me strength I'll need bail money!!
