I picked up the above rifle at a yardsale today for 5 bucks. It has a broken stock , but the barrel and action are ok. It say's it was made in Lowe Berlin. Can anybody tell me info on this rifle? Is this action a strong action? Thanks, Kelly

Got this off a website: http://www.empirearms.com/maus-faq.htm Model 1891: Single column magazine (5 rd.) that protrudes below the stock (like on a Carcano), small ("tab") extractor, small ring diameter barrel, usually chambered in 7.65 mm Argentine Mauser (also sometimes called 7.65 Belgian Mauser. You may also see it labelled as 7.65x53 or 7.65x54. This is a relatively hard to find cartridge. None of the major North American manufacturers load for it. Ballistically, it is a good cartridge (about like a .300 Savage). I have some old military surplus ammo if you are interested, I think it is this cartridge. -Spencer

You can also get brass from Graf & Son or form it from .30-06 brass. Btw, the Arg. Mausers are excellent cast bullet shooters. ...Maven

Quote: Yes, they are. Mine even shoots .308" 200 grain Sierras and Nosler Partiton bullets into 1 MOA, and the same POI!

For all practical purposes, you can reload with bullets for the .303 British (thats what we do here). Also, you can get excellent Boxer primed brass from new cartridges loaded with military solids from Fabricaciones Militares, Rosario, Argentina (look for their web page, even includes loading data). I used Alliant (Reloder) 19 with good accuracy. In power, the 7.65 x 53 Mauser is an intermediate between the .308 and the 30-06. The Norma loads are hot indeed and ammo is somewhat pricey but very good. The action is weaker than the 98 and you must not exceed factory loadings. Good shooting
