It was in 1808, the Swedish and Norwegian armies agian fought each other. The Swedes had heavy army equipment in the deep snow areas at Trangen in Hedmar, ca 80 miles from where i live. That included heavy artilery in sleighs, and dragoons. The norwegians had light troops, mainly the ecellent ski trops and Jaegers , (things hasnt changed much today, since the americans cry for help from our Jagers , elite winter soldiers ) http://home.no.net/frajoha/KaptDrejer.jpg This is the famous picture of Captein Dreier , who led his men from atop the stump , shooting agains the swdes, demopralising them with precise fire. How many men the Swedes los, was ca 400 out of the 500 men attacking, so precise rifle shooting accounted for many of them. Dreyer gave word to the saying: "It takes 7 bullets for a Trønder" He was hit 7 times of enemy musktfire, and he died 4 days later after that, hu must have had quite som stamina and hardness. The Estate where he passsed on. layes nearby my old high school and his room is haunted by him. But i didnt fear him, since one of my ancestors was one of his soldiers. Andreas was the name of my great, great etc, grandfather, he got a bullet in his heel during the years, and he was nicknamed the "Jaegern" because of that. So i felt at peace with the old Captein up in his room, i didnt fear him, just looked upon him as a friend and CO... That was perhaps alittle off topic, but many brave men saved us before, and they save ut today also.

Ehh, no, but since our SOG guys are needed in Afghanistan and perhaps in Iraq also, and Nato wanted them badly. I asked an American offiser imet while serving in the Amry some years ago about what he said about our SOG guys, and said that they must be more of reptils than men cause they can lay stil llong time and strike with an pain the enemy wont know until its to late... well back to topic, that battle was a devaestating one for the swedes and i will translate some about the battle later from Norwegian to wenglish i have found in various books and such.

Mr. Rigby We share our forefathers getting wounded in battle, in the heel. My Great Grandfather lost his heel at the battle of Gettysburg. Great bit of history you shared with us. Thank you.
