I bought this rifle today as a 1903A1. It's marked : U.S. Remington model 1903, s/n 3355333.
Not being familiar with the 1903 family, I wonder whether it is an A1 or a 1903 in a "C" stock.

Also, the tangent rear sight looks quite complex with 3 notches and a peep sight + a windage ladder. Could someone explain how to use it and tell me where to find the year of manufacture ?

This rifle is known as a 1903 Modified and not a 1903A1. Please note what appears to be a stamped 03A3 floorplate/trigger guard. These rifle were the first 03s produced by Remington in WW2.

For more detailed infor, you need to post your question and picture on the Springfield forum on http://www.jouster.com/

Thanks for the tip, Elmer. Great site with lots of info. I found out that it's not a 1903A1 but a 1903 "modified", made/assembled by Remington in 1942.

I really appreciate your concern, Seafire. Having just barely survived a bout of Swiss flu caused by the impulsive acquisition of 2 K 31's, one might fear that a secondary infection by the 1903 virus might prove fatal. I'll try and shoot the latter just a few times and watch symptoms. Anyway, I left instructions to my heirs to look up your proposal in case of mishap...
