James KainThere are other company's that put this operating system out before Ruger. If you look for them, you just may find one in .308 Win/7.62 NATO.

tnekkccThe SKS, AK, FAL, etc have pistons that isolate the bolt carrier from the gas.
I think the AR15 with less reciprocating mass was an improvement.
My problem with the AR15s is Chrome lined 556 chambers in shit barrels with fast twist.
Doesn't H&K already make a gas operated AR15 upper?

Ruger once advertised a .308 version and then later said their engineers could not make it work.

I had one on order!I think it was called the XGI.Supposedly,the accuracy was horseshit!I wanted it for deer hunting in the northern MN woods.
