Just wondering if there is anything left of the Konigsberg in the Rufiji River? I've read the guns were converted and used by Von Lettow-Vorbeck, but wondered if the rest of the ship was taken away as scrap or just left in the river. Interesting story with river monitors and aircraft working together to sink the Konigsberg. http://www.richthofen.com/konigsberg/wrecks_relics/ The largest relics of Konigsberg to survive are a pair of 4 inch guns, one in Mombasa, Kenya and the other in Pretoria, South Africa. By a strange coincidence the Mombasa gun stands next to one from the Pegasus. Both had been salvaged from the respective wrecks and both were to see action against one another on land having fought a one sided action at Zanzibar. | |||
