I have a barrel on my M1 Garand LMR D6535448 8 53 then A19 or A10 hard to tell where the operating rod handle has scraped the barrel then an "M" followed by a circular proof mark with 3 square spokes on top. Can't make out the bottom of proof mark. I know that the "8 53" stands for the date. I presume the D6535448 is the "Draw date". I don't know what that means? Across the back of the reciver is says Springfield Armory Serial number 611### It's been taking a nap in my gun safe. Any ideas? Rusty We Band of Brothers! The LMR is for Line Machine. They had a subcontract to build barrels for arsenal rebuilds, and some found there way on new HRA and IHC Garands after Korea. They have a reputation for being some of the best barrels put on Garands, tight tolerances, and post war production made for great accuracy. I have 2 HRA's built about 6 months apart, one is an HRA barrel, the other (4-53) is an LMR. Have fun, and get it out of the safe, it sould be a great shooter Lt. Robert J. Rusty According to my records your reciever was made sometime in May 1942. The D6535488 is the Drawing Number followed by the date of manuf. followed by IIRC the heat treat lot numbers. No doubt your Springfield was reworked sometime after 1953. What are the name and numbers on the bolt, and the trigger assembly? DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Also Federal is now loading ammo specifically for the 30/06 Garand. The CMP might still have some ammo left. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Thanks for the information, guys! Tony, I think I still have a partial 1955 can of M1 loaded clips in bandoliers! Rusty We Band of Brothers! DRSS, NRA & SCI Life Member "I am rejoiced at my fate. Well, if you want a Garand at a reasonable price from the CMP, you should probably get off the pot and order it! Same with the ammo. Only Greek left, but both choices are on the clips. Regards, WE

I really like Garands, they are fun guns to shoot. I really like one made into "Tanker" configuration, especially in 308. They are the same length as an AR 15, slimmer and trimmer, and in a full power Battle Rifle cartridge. Also I think they are not considered an Assault Rifle in any state.
