I was given a large metal case, marked "repacked by NAD HAW 1954" and 2000 CTGS, M2. The end of the can is labeled "Sierra Amry Depot, Herlong, California" The top of the can is stamped "SMALL ARMS AMM. BOX MK. 1 MOD.0 and has the DoD stamp, and FA 54. Now for the good part, inside there are 32 boxes of armor piercing caliber .30 M2 St. Louis Ordnance plant, all is lot #7742, headstamped SL 43. 14 boxes of BALL Caliber .30 AN-M2 Lot W.C.C. 6844 Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation. (What does the AN-M2 stand for?) Also are three boxes of M2 ball, Eau Claire, and 2 boxes of M2 ball, Denver ordnance plant, and several opened boxed of Twin Cities M2 ball, and a couple of boxes of FA Match, and LC Match. Not a bad score for just hauling it off, to get it out of someones way. I think I'll hang on to the smaller quantities, but If anyone needs some of the SL armor piercing, or the W.C.C ball(it's headstamped 55) Let me know, and we'll see if we can't work something out. Most of these are sealed, but a couple are open. Lt. Robert J. Dole, 10th Mountain, Italy.

I believe AN-M2 is aircraft machine gun ammo

The "AN" designator stood for "Army-Navy Joint Type Ordnance". It's plain old M2 ball.

I still have some loaded Denver '42 & '43 Ball ammo,I pulled one apart noting no bad odor or deterioration. It has corrosive primers that requires washing the barrel but on another forum I learned shooters carry a spray bottle Windex to wash the salts from the barrel after shooting.

I pulled a number of the AP bullets from WW2 rounds and used them in some of my reloads; they turned out to be surprisingly accurate. I also punched out the primers on the empty cases, swaged the primer pockets, and are still using them. Bud W

with pulled AP bullets I used a dremel to remove the jacket & now use the tungsten carbide stud as a great center punch,my gs showed me his punches made from 30 & 50 cal studs that he used to mark case hardened receivers for drilling & tapping for scope bases.
