Howdy Folks, My first post here on the Milsurp forum. Wondering if you guys can help me. I've got the chance to buy 700 rounds of Malaysian M193 .223 ammo. Is this stuff corrosive or Berdan primed? (I know I could always pull a bullet and snap a primer on a piece of steel and wait to see if it rusts, but I don't want to ask the guy to do that.) Furthermore, is it any good for plinking/ general blasting? The headstamp is MAL 5.56 10-81. I'm going to try and attach a picture of the boxes it comes it. There are 20 rounds to a box. Finally, what would be a fair price to pay for 700 rounds of this stuff? Thanks for any help guys. Jason [ 10-04-2003, 01:01: Message edited by: JRD ]

It is very hot. 55 gr does 3300 fps with a 14" barrel 55 gr does 2500 fps with a 7" barrel Accuracy is average mis surplus, and it all goes off and seems consistant in quality. It was sold in Shotgun news by lots of dealers ~5 years ago.

Hot is an under statement. I bought a batch of these and blew the primers out of the casing on some of them. If using an AR series you'll see them in the trigger area. Mine might of been a fluke, but I won't use it anymore. My two cents (with respect).

I've shot many cans of it. Never had any pressure problems.

I have a bunch of this, headstamped 3/82. Okay in a mini-14, but blows primers in an AR.
